Poonam Sinha Acting Career
She appeared in a number of films, including Jigri Dost, Dil Diwana, and others, in which she had a leading role and was billed as Komal. She was chosen to star in the film Sabak with Shatrughan Sinha (1973). After some time, in 1980, the couple tied the knot. They had first encountered one another in a railway cabin earlier in their journey.
After being married, she basically retired from the performing industry so that she could focus on raising their children.
After an extended absence of thirty years, she made her acting debut in the film Jodhaa Akbar (2008), portraying the role of Mallika Hamida Banu Begum, the mother of Emperor Akbar. The film was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and stars Hrithik Roshan.

She joined the Samajwadi Party on April 16, 2019, while her husband Shatrughan Sinha joined the Indian National Congress the same day after resigning from his position in the BJP. She was defeated by Rajnath Singh in the election for the Loksabha seat representing Lucknow (Lok Sabha constituency).
