Angie Motshekga Biography, Angie Motshekga is a prominent figure in South African politics and education. She was born in Soweto on July 19, 1955. Since May of 2009, she has been serving as the Minister of Basic Education in her current role.

She had a position on the Executive Council of the Gauteng provincial government throughout her time there.

In addition to that, she is a member of the African National Congress (ANC), a political organization, and she once held the presidency of the ANC women’s league.

She attended a boarding school in the town of Matatiele, which is situated in the upper section of the Eastern Cape, for the matriculation portion of her education.

Between the years 1981 and 1983, she was an instructor at the Orlando High School. After Angie was assigned to a lectureship at the Soweto College of Education, she was forced to quit from her position.

She was hired as a professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, often known as Wits University, in the year 1985. She was a professor at the university for nine (9) years, beginning in 1984 and continuing until 1994.

Angie Motshekga Politics

She participated in the Soweto Education Crisis Committee during the 1980s as a member. In subsequent years, the group became an integral component of the National Coordinating Committee.

In addition, she was a member of the United Democratic Front and the National Education Union of South Africa (NEUSA).

Ms. Angie was very involved in the Pimville Civic Association, and she also served as the National Convenor of Teacher Unity. In addition to that, she was the chairperson of the ANC Women’s League in the old Kyalami area of the African National Congress.

She served in the role of Director in the Office of the President for a total of three (3) years (1994-1997). She was chosen for the role of ‘Deputy Provincial Secretary of the ANCWL’ in the same year, 1997, and won the election for that post.

Following the results of the general election in 1999, she was subsequently sworn in as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

Ms. Angie was put in charge of the Executive Council’s Social Development portfolio the next year, in 2000, by Mbhazima Shilowa who made the appointment. After the general election in 2004, she made her way back to the legislative body in order to seek for a second term.

After serving as the vice president of the ANC women’s league for four (4) years, she was elected to the post of national president of the ANC women’s league in 2008.
